Price and order costs
Both percentage fees use merchandise selling price. Tax and customer-paid shipping are outside this model. Shipping, packaging and fixed fees apply once per order.
Price boundaries
02 / CHECKCovers the entered costs and percentage fees.
Uses your 40% target; it does not forecast demand.
Relative to your entered regular merchandise value.
Boundary prices round up to $0.01; the discount limit rounds down to 0.01 percentage point. Calculations and CSV keep full precision. These limits cover entered costs only.
Merchandise gross margin: 68%. Uses selling price as the denominator; excludes order costs and fees.
Merchandise markup: 212.5%. Uses component cost as the denominator; unavailable when component cost is zero.
Compare discount scenarios
03 / COMPARE| Scenario | Selling price | Contribution | Contribution margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular price · 0% discount 0% off | $60.00 | $36.90 Positive | 61.5% |
| Entered bundle price 16.67% off | $50.00 | $27.20 Positive | 54.4% |
| Alternative discount 20% off | $48.00 | $25.26 Positive | 52.63% |
These scenarios compare contribution per order. They do not predict sales volume, demand, returns or total monthly profit.
Fresh result: $27.20 contribution per bundle.
How to use this tool
- Add each product's quantity, normal selling price and acquisition cost.
- Choose a discount percentage or enter a bundle selling price. Enter the fee rates and per-order costs that apply to your own operation.
- Review contribution profit, the cost breakdown and break-even price. Compare discount scenarios before deciding on an offer.
A worked example
Two items costing 8.00 each, sold as a 50.00 bundle, with a 3% payment fee, a 0.30 fixed fee and 5.00 shipping leave 27.20 contribution profit. The zero-profit merchandise price is (16.00 + 0.30 + 5.00) ÷ 0.97 = approximately 21.96.
Know the limits
- Results are contribution profit, not net accounting profit. Fixed overhead, tax, refunds, acquisition spend and any unentered costs are excluded.
- Both percentage fees apply to merchandise revenue. Tax and customer-paid shipping are outside this model.
- Shipping, packaging and fixed payment fees are charged once per modeled bundle order. Defaults are illustrative examples, not current platform fee schedules.
- A target price is only available when the fee rate plus target margin leaves a positive denominator. Boundary prices round up to the currency's display unit; discount limits round down. They cover entered costs only, not complete net profit.
A few useful answers
Is margin the same as markup?
No. Gross margin divides merchandise gross profit by selling price; markup divides it by product cost. Contribution margin also subtracts the entered variable fees and order costs.
Why is break-even above product cost plus shipping?
Percentage fees increase as the selling price increases. The floor is total product and per-order costs divided by one minus the total percentage fee rate.
Can a zero-price giveaway be calculated?
Yes. The tool can show the contribution loss from your entered costs, while leaving margin percentages undefined at zero revenue.
Does it know my platform's fees?
No. Enter the fees from your own current contract. The calculator does not fetch platform prices or claim to model every marketplace fee rule.
