UTF-8 CSV or TSV · up to 10 MB · 20,000 records
Use one row per exact SKU, with the number of individual units and purchase cost per unit. The example uses 10 × 5.00 and 20 × 10.00; enter freight 30 and other costs 0 to reproduce the worked example.
2. Choose how to share shipment costs
Use decimal points without currency symbols or thousands separators. Quantity is a whole number from 1 to 1,000,000,000 per row. This calculator does not determine duties, taxes, exchange rates or the appropriate accounting treatment.
How to use this tool
- Load your shipment CSV with one row per SKU, whole-unit quantity and purchase cost per unit. Unit weight is required only for weight allocation.
- Map the columns, select the currency and choose units, purchase value or shipment weight as the basis for both shared charges.
- Enter confirmed freight and other shared costs, then confirm they are not already included in purchase prices. Fix any flagged records before calculating.
- Review the exact line totals and rounded per-unit averages. Export all SKUs as CSV to keep an allocation record.
A worked example
SKU-A has 10 units at 5.00 each; SKU-B has 20 at 10.00. Purchase totals are 50.00 and 200.00. Allocate 30.00 freight by purchase value: A receives 6.00 and B receives 24.00. Landed totals are 56.00 and 224.00, averaging 5.60 and 11.20 per unit. The shipment reconciles to 280.00. Download the sample CSV.
Know the limits
- Purchase subtotal = quantity × unit purchase cost. A row’s raw share = shared cost × row basis ÷ total basis. Landed total = purchase subtotal + allocated freight + allocated other costs.
- Money is calculated as exact minor units: 2 decimal places for USD, HKD, EUR and GBP, and whole yen for JPY. Inputs with extra decimal places are rejected, never silently rounded. A batch total cannot exceed 9,007,199,254,740,991 minor units.
- Freight and other costs are apportioned separately using largest remainders. Equal remainders are settled in source-record order. Rounded per-unit averages are informational; the line totals remain authoritative.
- All rows must be valid. Missing or duplicate exact SKUs block the entire calculation; no products are silently dropped. Case, spaces and leading zeros are preserved.
- All money must already use the selected currency. Tax, import duty, VAT/GST treatment, FX conversion and customs valuation are not calculated. Include only confirmed costs appropriate to your own accounting basis.
- Quantity is a positive whole-number item count, up to 1 billion per row. Weight uses one consistent unit, up to 1 billion per item and 6 decimal places. The selected allocation basis must have a positive total.
A few useful answers
Should I allocate freight by value, units or weight?
Use the basis that reflects your shipment and accounting policy. Weight may reflect a weight-based carrier bill, units may suit similarly sized items, and purchase value is useful for costs related to item value. Packaging, volumetric charges and mixed cost drivers may require separate calculations.
Does the report include import duties and taxes?
Only amounts you enter. You can include a confirmed shared cost in the other-cost field if allocating it across this shipment is appropriate. Item-specific duties, recoverable taxes and legal customs calculations may need separate treatment; this tool does not estimate them.
Why does the average unit cost have more decimals?
A line amount such as 10.00 divided by 3 units has no finite two-decimal average. The report shows a six-decimal average for planning while keeping the exact 10.00 line total. Multiplying a rounded average can introduce a small difference.
Can I use a file with several rows for the same SKU?
Combine those records into one SKU row first, or use genuinely distinct item identifiers. This calculator stops on duplicate exact SKUs so it cannot silently assign the same product different allocations.
Are my purchase prices uploaded?
The CSV is parsed and calculated in your browser. Product rows, prices and weights are not sent to a server, and no signup is required.
